The Patron Saint of Pigs: I am Miserable

The Patron Saint of Pigs by Lauren Myracle is a really beautiful love story.  I thought it was really interesting because lots of teen girls could probably relate to some of the parts of the story. The story was about this girl called Addie who just broke up with her boyfriend called Jeb ( he was trapped in the train trapped with Jubilee in the snow storm) because she kissed another guy called Charlie, which really liked Addie. She was super sad and the day that they broke up she dyed her hair pink and cut it pretty small. She spent most of the afternoon having lots of flashbacks when she saw Jeb's pictures. She was hurting a lot so her friends came by and they got in a big fight but they forgave each other and then Addie promised her friend to pick up her tea-cup sized pig in the pet store. It was perfect because Addie had to go to work in Starbucks right the next day, and the pet store was just across the street. She promised her friend that she would do it, so she put a post it note that said that she needed to pick up the pig and she pasted it inner uniform for that day.

"Being me sucked. Being me on this supposedly gorgeous night, with the supposedly gorgeous snow looming in five-foot drifts outside my bedroom window, double-sucked. Add the fact that today was Christmas, and my score was up to triple-suck. And add in the sad, aching, devastating lack of Jeb, and ding-ding-ding! The bell up the Suckle Meter couldn't ring any louder."
(Myracle, 215)

This quote was impressive because I never thought that someone could be so negative about something and call them suckers a whole bunch of times. Also because in Christmas nothing matters and everything is happy and merry even if something bad happened. I can't believe that someone couldn't be happy in Christmas, because it is the season of happiness and joy. I have always thought that negativism is something bad and that positivism is something really important in order for you to enjoy life correctly.

"Charlie pushed for details, charming and sympathetic, and when I got teary, he moved in close to comfort me. I protested, but he pressed his mouth to mine, and eventually I submitted. A guy as paying me all sorts of attention-a really cute and charismatic guy-and who cared that he didn't mean it?"
(Myracle, 232)

My response to this quote, is that Addie only shouldn't think about that when she is cheating on her boyfriend. She is betraying someone and what she is thinking is that she likes getting attention and that is really wrong. She shouldn't be suffering so much if she was the one who did something wrong and she was the one who hurt Jeb not the other way around. The only reason that she has to be mad and sad is because she hurt someone badly but then she shouldn't be crying about wanting Jeb to come back.

Overall these first eight chapters have been really slow because the only thing they were about was Addie and her flashbacks to the times in which Jeb and her were together. She explained how sad she was and what she did after and before their breakup. The only thing that happened that didn't have anything to do with Jeb was Gabriel, the little teacup pig that Addie had to pick up the next day across Starbucks. Even though these chapters  were slow, they were actually interesting.
